We’re So Excited, and We Just Can’t Hide It!

As we are less than two weeks from the first short-term project of the year, we are growing more and more excited.  This isn’t just any short-term team, this is a college team of students primarily from Olivet Nazarene University and Trevecca Nazarene University.  The energy, passion, and excitement that college teams bring is contagious.  As Anndee and I have lead the previous two college teams with Extreme, we can look back and see the divine hand of providence in the Day 9 - May College Team - 191timing of the projects, the fruit they have brought, and the blessing they are to the missionaries on the ground.  We love to see young people who are the age of our 40/40 Church-Planting Missionaries see God using young people in mighty ways.  Anndee and I look forward to having our girls on the project and seeing how Genna can help translate at evangelism events and the interaction between our girls and both the missionaries on the ground and the short-termers as well.
.
We are also very much looking forward to the Kickstart Team of High school Students in Cordoba, Argentina in June.  This is a new idea that was originally Anndee’s.  We are sending  team of students from Fargo, ND to help the team in Cordoba get a kickstart on their ministry and outreach in the city.  Our presence there to lead the project will allow us to evaluate first-handthis new approach to ministry and assess the effectiveness and benefit that it has on the ministry as a whole, both the field and the short-term missionaries. Serving the church plants by blessing them with thoughtful, effective, timely short-term teams is our ministry.  Seeing as much first-hand as possible is obviously a desired scenario for our family.

MayTeam-Day4-Impact - 081
Our family has been together for nine of the last ten short-term teams with Extreme.  The only one for which they were not present was the college team last year in Ibarra and Ambato.
 .
The desire of our hearts is to continue this ministry as a family.  Each of the four of us plays a valuable part in the MayTeam-Day4-Impact - 059projects, and we want to be present as a family for as many as is possible and feasible.  We have a great passion for our part in the ministry and, as much as is possible, want to see the fruits of our labor.  As the ministry FridayPrayerWalk - 160expands, that will be able to happen less and less, being that we will have dozens of projects happening each year and can’t possibly be present for any more than a handful annually.  Our ability to monitor the quality and benefit of the experience that we have created within the ministry is key its’ ongoing success.
.
The good news:
We are 76.60% funded as of 5:00pm Central Time on Friday, May 1st.  That is fantastic news and is testament to the generosity and faithfulness of so many who have given of time, money, resources, and words of encouragement and help to make this happen.
.
The challenge:
We need that remaining 23.4% before Sunday, May 10th.  That represents $150 per month to get us to our monthly need, as well as $26,000 in one-time costs of flights, house setup, visa and passport renewals, classes towards ordination, Extreme ministry training in Columbia, an emergency fund, and other fees.  We are confident that, in His time, the Lord will provide this.
.
However, we cannot deploy as a family on the field until this money is either pledged or in our account.
.
The current plan, if the funds don’t come in, is to have me travel to Ecuador as planned on May 11th and oversee the college project happening in Ibarra.  I would then return to the States and help continue the fundraising process, with the goal being to return to Ecuador as a family on July 20th or so in time to run the medical team happening in Ibarra in late July/early August.  That would mean the four of us missing out on the Kickstart Team in Argentina in June and Anndee and the girls missing the project in Ibarra later this month.  We have a very capable member of Extreme (one of our 40/40s in Arequipa, Peru) who would run that project in June, but our passion is to be present and run the project.
.
Our ultimate goal and desire is to see the Lord’s name lifted high and his Kingdom expand.
.
Our aim is to be good and faithful servants of the passion and ability that he has given us to lead the short-term part of the ministry.  Our desire is to be a part of as much of that as possible.  Right now, we can’t officially move onto the field again (and be able to fully focus on the many things the Lord has put in our hearts and minds to do in this part of the ministry) until we are fully funded and deployed to the field.
.
Will you come alongside us with a CasaAbierta - 12monthly donation or one-time gift?  There is so much need in our funding, and we believe the Lord already has a plan to provide for us.  The adventure is discovering the how, who, and when.  We already know the why.
